Kumbhalgarh Fort: The Mewar Fortress

Kumbhalgarh Fort is one of the most magnificent hill forts of Rajasthan and a UNESCO World Heritage Site included in the Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Built during the 15th century by the great Rajput ruler Maharana Kumbha, the fort is located in the Aravalli Hills around 85 km from Udaipur. It is famous for its massive defensive wall, often called the “Great Wall of India,” stretching over 36 kilometers, making it the second-longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.

The fort stands at an altitude of about 1,100 meters and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and forests. It has seven fortified gateways, more than 300 ancient temples, palaces, step wells, and impressive watchtowers. One of the most important historical facts about the fort is that Maharana Pratap, the legendary warrior king of Mewar, was born here.
